The history of Cro–Bidou, from 1950 to today
Once upon a time, in the 1950s, there was a lovely idea that came from the heart… to create a welcoming place, simple and sincere, where people would feel good.
In the 1950’s
The birth of Cro-Bidou
Our grandparents, Marie-Sylvie and Daniel Christin, locals, fell in love with this unspoiled corner of nature and decided to build Le Cro-Bidou there, in the middle of the meadows, facing Lake Beunaz. With courage and a lot of heart, they laid the first stones of what would become a warm and vibrant home.
Mimi’s Kitchen
From the very beginning, the hotel was intended to be a place for meeting and sharing. The first guests were welcomed like friends, and our signature dishes, created by our grandmother Marie-Sylvie – affectionately known as “Mimi” – were already delighting them. Even today, you can discover her secret recipes, which tantalize the taste buds and evoke cherished memories.
The Lake & seasons
A living place in summer and winter
In the past, during the winter, the hotel would fill with laughter as school groups skied, and behind the house, in the fields, a small ski lift allowed children to experience their first runs. In the summer, people would cross the path, towel under their arm, to go swimming, catch crayfish… or catch a glimpse of the pike, king of the lake.
Even today, swimming and fishing remain a true pleasure for our guests, and the lake still sets the rhythm of life at the hotel, offering a gentle, relaxing, and peaceful atmosphere.
In the 1950s, the lake also owes much to André Caza, who helped reveal its full potential. By developing the beach and the first recreational activities, he transformed this natural place into a vibrant and popular space, where families come to relax and enjoy nature.
Development of the site
Their son, Thierry Christin, and his wife Michèle took over the business, expanding the estate and strengthening the family spirit for which the establishment is renowned. They also built chalets around the hotel, within the private grounds and park of Cro-Bidou, offering our guests a more independent stay while still maintaining proximity to the hotel.
Guests can enjoy their space freely, with the team available if needed.
2023
Meryl takes over
In 2023, Meryl, the eldest daughter, took over the reins, accompanied by her parents. At just 29 years old, she wanted to continue the work of her grandparents, to whom she was very close, especially her grandmother Mimi, and continue to make her parents proud. Passionate about this place and this adventure, she will be the one to warmly welcome you to Cro-Bidou.
An iconic place
Le Cro-Bidou is an iconic place, where its unique history and refined services blend elegance and a family atmosphere. Lake La Beunaz, opened in the 1950s around the same time as our hotel, was the brainchild of “Caza,” who developed it for swimming and created a vibrant atmosphere for the public, allowing our guests to enjoy it thanks to its immediate proximity. There, you will also discover our enchanting legend… and you might even encounter our squirrels, symbols of our establishment, numerous in the park and always curious about visitors!
